The Top 5 DS Titles

The following list is a countdown of the Top 5 DS Titles, now remember, this list is consisted through opinion so feel free to give your own decisions on YOUR Top 5 in the comments area below:

Number 5: CASTLEVANIA PORTRAIT OF RUIN
A fantastic installlment to a fantastic, long running series, the game utilizes a mixture of puzzles, breathtaking attacks, team work mechanics and as usual, unbelievably hectic boss battles. Portrait of Ruin takes what is great about the series, and adds to it. The inclusion of a teammate this time around takes away that feeling of loneliness from the earlier titles whilst also resulting in more satisfactory battles. The multiplayer comes in the form of a Boss Rush Mode of sorts, which is quite a dissapointment as a complete Co-Op experience would have been fantastic and would have made the campaign a brease, however the inclusion of the online store is a fun inclusion, allowing you to buy weapons not dropped by certain enemies during your playthrough.

Number 4: POKEMON SOUL SILVER/HEART GOLD
The thing that this game is fantastic at is bringing back a flood of memories. Having played through Silver as a child, the remake came with a flood of memories, as well as the standard Pokemon fun, whilst the game is yet again the samerecycled mechanics, it never gets old, with the game being just as fun as when played years ago as a child. The game is closer to the Pearl/Saphire installments also on the DS gameplay/Graphics wise, with the story of Silver/Gold. Brilliant.

Number 3: GRAND THEFT AUTO CHINATOWN WARS
When Chinatown Wars was first announced, I was unsure as to how it would be approached, after seeing the first screens I wasnt pleasently suprised. The game is a return to the olden days of Grand Theft Auto, the top down camera, the crazy police chases, the hectic shoot outs. Another plus side to the title is the standard GTA wit, the game is hilarious, mainly down to the dialogue between characters. The story, whilst nothing incredible, does have its twists and turns which result in an enjoyable run. A downside to the game, and it really is a small one, is the lack of presenters and dialogue recordings for the radio, one of the highlights of every GTA title is going for a long drive and listening to the brilliant radio recordings, however, we do still get a selection of music genres. The multiplayer is a fun inclusion, it was great to see and provides both a longer life span and the same with GTA IV, some very fun moments. Great Singleplayer and the best DS Multiplayer. A Must Buy for DS Owners.

Number 2: CHRONO TRIGGER
Chrono Trigger is a beauty of a game, from begining to end, the game has you hooked, a brilliant story, a fantastic voyage taking the gamer through a diverse selection of locations, from the prehistoric times of the Dinosaurs, to the end of the world, this traveling results in the confrontations with a number of varied characteristics, the game plays like an early Final Fantasy title, but the game is so much better. From the characters to the gameplay, to the traveling the game allows for the gamer to do so much in a beautifully crafted world. The game is breathtaking and simply put...a must buy for RPG fans.

Number 1: HOTEL DUSK ROOM 215
And here we are, Hotel Dusk is without a doubt, THE game to own on the DS. Whilst there is a lot of competition for the title of the "Best DS Game", Hotel Dusk takes the crown. The game is gripping, you find yourself unable to put your DS down from start to end, the art direction, story, dialogue and music all contribute to an incredible final product. The characters you meet throughout the duration of the game are both varied, and fun to interact with. By the end of the game you find yourself saddened at the thought of the game coming to its conclusion. The game takes advantage of the DS' touch screen, throwing new things to do at the gamer continuously, from puzzles to bowling, clue solving to jigsaw puzzles. This may not be the best selling DS title, or the best reviewed (Although getting great reviews from critics), but this game, in my opinion, is THE Must have game on the DS. Simply Fantastic.

Honourable mentions:
METAL SLUG 7: Hectic fun, cut short by its lack of Co-Op.
DEMENTIUM THE WARD: Great graphics for DS, atmospheric, but no Multiplayer? Sad Face...
METROID PRIME HUNTERS: Most is brilliant, the gameplay is fantastic, the multiplayer is one of the best on the DS. However, the story and atmosphere in comparison to Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and the GC Prime titles is very weak resulting in the games non appearence in the list.

Great list and very well justified. Personally, I would have added Elite Beat Agents. But well written article nonetheless.

Thanks!

IGN writes: "Saros tries at an interesting and ambitious story it isn't always able to effectively tell, but Housemarque has once again proved that its bullet-hell sensibilities mesh incredibly well with fluid and challenging action."
